Research Scientist Intern

Internship Remote/Hybrid 3-6 months

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist Intern to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge AI and data science research projects. This internship offers an exceptional opportunity to work on real-world problems while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic research environment focused on African contexts and challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in designing and conducting research experiments in AI and data science
Analyze large datasets and develop machine learning models
Contribute to research publications and technical reports
Collaborate with senior researchers on grant proposals and project development
Present research findings at team meetings and potentially at conferences
Support data collection and preprocessing for ongoing research projects
Participate in literature reviews and stay current with latest research developments

Required Qualifications

Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages
Experience with machine learning libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
Solid understanding of statistical methods and data analysis techniques
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with deep learning and neural networks
Knowledge of natural language processing or computer vision
Previous research experience or published papers
Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
Familiarity with version control systems (Git)
Interest in African development challenges and opportunities
Multilingual capabilities (especially African languages)
